Tyres have more effect on fuel efficiency of any other part of the car! Anyone with a hybrid car will tell you that different tyres have a huge difference in fuel economy.
A tyre with a low rolling resistance uses less fuel because it requires less effort to push it. Rolling resistance is tied up with traction, but a low rolling resistance michelin tyre would still grip better than 90% of lesser manufacturers tyres at all
